29studios have teamed up with Scottish EDGE for round 11 of the UK’s largest funding competition #EDGE11. This was launched on the 31st of July with all entries required by 6th of September.

Fully immersive video experience

This year #EDGE11 will be a fully immersive video experience. 29studios are working to capture the Scottish EDGE journey from the viewpoint of those entering the competition, the judges, funders and EDGE team themselves. Capturing the highs, the lows and everything in between. To do so we are collecting user generated content of the moments that are simply not possible for us to capture.

Building a business is addictive, it’s emotional, it’s a rollercoaster and we want to share this with the world.  We are then pulling together all of this amazingly unique content and creating one epic Grand Final video worthy of global acclaim. Now that’s how you kick off a Grand Final with a bang.

This joint project is called ‘The Cutting EDGE’, and is brand new for the Scottish Business community. Our aim is that will leave a lasting legacy for years to come for all those involved.

 

How YOU can get involved?

Scottish EDGE are looking for all applicants to share your raw unedited video content, following YOUR EDGE journey! No expensive equipment is needed, just use your regular smartphone (which are brilliant these days, just saying). No editing is required, we will take care of that. Just recognise a moment and capture that moment for everything it is worth. If it means something to you, then it means something to us!

Visual Effects

Back in Episode 20, we caught up with Siobhan. As our resident visual effects artist, Siobhan talked us through the early stages of setting up any successful video effects project: storyboarding.

This week we check back in with Siobhan, who is at the final stages of another project. One of the last steps is known as rendering. This is the stage where you take the animation and focus on the little details. It can be a painstaking process, with lots of little tweaks and updates, but it’s a vital part of the process to achieve authenticity.

This week we held another of our sell out networking events. The #29ERS were up bright and early on Tuesday morning to welcome everyone to the studio, serve up some coffee and croissants, and help people make new connections.

We kicked things off with the increasingly popular 29-second pitches, once again offering a feature on the show to the winner of best pitch.

SCQF Case Study

In Episode 27 we ran a feature on some SCQF case studies that we were filming. This week the team were out and about again to record some more.

This time we headed to City of Glasgow College Riverside Campus to interview Steven. Steven recently left full-time employment and went back into education to pursue his dream career.

Case studies are a great way to provide social proof about your products or services. By using real people and real stories you can present the authenticity of your brand and build trust with customers and potential customers.

One of our core values here at 29studios is #TRAVELOFTEN. We love to get out and about, exploring the world. So this week Production Director Pauline and Filmmaker Ellis were up in the highlands of Scotland, enjoying the sites while filming for a client.

#HELPOTHERS

Another of our values is #HELPOTHERS. We’re passionate about working with charities and contributing to good causes.

One of the charities that we’ve worked with a great deal over the years is Ocean Youth Trust Scotland. We’ve created multiple video campaigns for them, as well as creating their website. In return they’ve helped up achieve in achieving our #TRAVELOFTEN core value, taking filmmaker Ellis away to document a sailing trip to Norway in his first week!

Gillian has recently shown her continued support to OYT Scotland by joining the Board of Trustees. We were delighted to be able to offer up the Pirate Bar as a venue for their most recent meeting, where Gillian discussed planning and strategy with the other board members.

SAMH

We paid our neighbours at Cup Glasgow a visit this week. They kindly hosted a shoot with SAMH for their latest Ambassador videos that we’re creating with them.

The Scottish Association for Mental Health (or SAMH) are Scotland’s leading mental health charity. In a special video, three people shared the story of their own mental health issues in a chat with one of the charity’s ambassadors, Hardeep Singh Kohli.

We caught up with Alison Gilchrist from SAMH to discuss what the charity wanted to achieve with these videos. Alison explained that video was the best medium for the story they wanted to tell, as it’s is personal and helped others to identify better with the individuals. Video allows people to connect to a story on an emotional level that a written account cannot.

Hardeep commented how noble it was to see people sharing stories that are deeply personal with the aim of helping others who may be in a similar situation.

Xtreme Karting

Gary and Jake travelled through to Edinburgh on Monday to meet with the team at Xtreme Karting. You may recall back in Episode 32 that they won a feature on the show for best pitch at our networking event.

Well here it is!

Xtreme Karting has two karting centres in Scotland, both of which have been independently rated by Visit Scotland as 5 Star Visitor Attractions. Their centre in Falkirk is the first in Scotland to be rated 5 stars by Visit Scotland, while their Edinburgh track is the only 5 star centre in the area.

AutoRek

We’re delighted to be working with technology company AutoRek to help them attract the very best talent in Scotland and beyond. In this week’s show we throw open our doors and roll out the red carpet for the team to come and see the premier of the new video that we’ve created for them, and a preview of their careers website.

If you are familiar with 29studios then you’re probably well aware we know how to throw a good party. And our evening with AutoRek was no exception.

After the video was played there was champagne, cheers, and high-fives all round!

As a massive Celtic fan, it didn’t take much persuasion from Glasgow Chamber of Commerce to get Gary along to their Behind the Scenes at Celtic Football Club event.

As a strategic and platinum partner of the Chamber, we welcomed the opportunity to check in with the team and network with other businesses while touring the iconic stadium.

We’re looking forward to working with the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce to make more great content throughout the year.

Beatson Foot Golf

Paul Sheerin dropped by for a visit this week. We met Paul through our work with Beatson Cancer Charity. As a survivor of cancer himself, Paul now dedicates his time to raising funds and awareness for the Beatson.

This has led him to set up Beatson Foot Golf.

What’s foot golf?

It’s like golf. Played with footballs.

Always keen to offer our support and guidance, we were ready to sign up a team to take part, and offer Paul advice on how best to promote the event online.

World Cancer Day 2017

 

World Cancer Day takes place every year on 4th February, uniting the world’s population in the fight against cancer.

Everybody knows someone who has been affected by cancer. Here at 29studios cancer has touched us all in so many different ways, through our families, our friends and our colleagues, who are really more like family than colleagues.

It’s important for us to do what we can to fundraise and raise awareness for those in need of life-saving treatment and support. We are big supporters of the Beatson Cancer Charity and have taken part in many events raising money and making so new friends along the way. Many are still with us, but those who are not will never be forgotten.

It’s unbelievable, but currently 8.2 million people die from cancer worldwide every year. Of these people, 4 million people die prematurely aged 30 to 69. And this does not take into consideration the millions of people whose lives are forever changed by their battle to fight and beat cancer.

World Cancer Day is the ideal opportunity to spread the word and raise the profile of cancer in people’s minds and in the world’s media. It allows the vital organisations, who help many millions of people a year, to continue to do what they do.

You alone CAN make a difference, but together we can do so much more!

So do what you can and join the world for World Cancer Day 2017.
